Return of the specialty shop? We’ve been spotting (and admiring) a new crop of interiors and concept stores in Brooklyn and beyond. Here are 11 favorites:
Above: Francesca and I stopped in at Dae recently, an under-the-radar cafe and home shop on Smith Street in Brooklyn; the wares are minimalist and the menu is quirky in a nice way (Korean Mugwort latte, for instance).
Above: Another Brooklyn must-visit: concept store Tangerine in East Williamsburg, Brooklyn.
Above: Design Studio In Common With recently opened Quarters, a concept store, in a 19th-century NYC loft styled as a residence. “In addition to our own work, visitors will find a curated selection of vintage furniture and independent works from peers and fellow designers,” they say.
Above: Beloved LA shop Nickey Kehoe recently opened an NYC outpost; it’s well worth a visit.
About: Remodelista favorite East Fork Pottery, based in Asheville, NC, is opening an outpost at 377A Atlantic Avenue, between Bond and Hoyt streets, in Brooklyn, this fall.
Above: Designer on the rise Giancarlo Valle recently opened a showroom and event space at 50 Lispenard Street, in Tribeca, NYC, where he offers his own designs.
Above: Porta, on Atlantic Avenue in Brooklyn, was founded by friends Alice Russotti and Francesca del Balzo, with interiors designed by Giancarlo Valle; the duo travels the world in search of an ever evolving array of tableware and homewares.
Above: Housed within a small storefront in Manhattan’s East Village, Common Things is a “story-forward” shop of home goods founded by architect and designer Komal Kehar of Mira Projects.
About: Bomi Jin’s shop Bomi is inspired by Korean minimalism; it’s located at 54 Mercer Street, 2nd Floor, in Soho.
Above: Some of our favorite housewares come from Japanese brand Kinto, so we were happy to hear they’ve opened a branch in NYC at 211 Elizabeth St.
Above: Woman of the moment Beverly Nguyen opened her own emporium, Beverly’s World, not long ago where she stocks things you didn’t know you wanted (a foot-shaped pillow?). She also carries handblown glasses from Solange Knowles’s line.
Above: Jane Cookshop is located at 328 East 9th Street and carries an eclectic array of housewares and books.
